Squalane
Definition
Squalane is a lightweight and non-greasy emollient derived from plants or shark liver oil (although plant-derived squalane is more commonly used in skincare). It is highly compatible with the skin's natural lipid barrier, allowing it to moisturize and soften the skin effectively. Squalane has excellent emollient properties, helping to reduce moisture loss, enhance skin hydration, and improve overall skin texture. It is easily absorbed, leaving the skin feeling smooth and supple. Additionally, squalane has soothing and calming effects, making it suitable for sensitive and irritated skin. Its mechanism of function involves forming a protective barrier, preventing dehydration, and supporting the skin's natural healing process.
