The science behind our REL1 Serum
Boosting Collagen Synthesis And Preventing Loss
Retinol, a form of Vitamin A, is a potent agent for collagen (Type I and Type III) synthesis, which improves skin elasticity, firmness, and texture. It promotes skin cell turnover, removing dead skin cells and improving health of the dermal layer. Retinol also inhibits collagenase, an enzyme that degrades collagen and causes skin aging.
Regulate Skin Turnover For Tighter Complexion
Retinol is one major agent for skin cells turnover, purifying pores and smoothing skin through removing accumulated dead skin cells, and reveal a brighter skin tone.
Liposome Technology for Optimal Retinol Delivery
Liposome technology is a novel method that encapsulates Retinol in tiny lipid-based spheres. These spheres release the compound gradually throughout the night, avoiding contact in high concentrations that can cause irritation. This allows for continuous overnight repair while minimising the concerns of irritation from using Retinol.
Powerful Antioxidant Protection
Dimethylmethoxy Chromanol is a potent antioxidant that shields skin cells from oxidative damage caused by UV radiation. It effectively inhibits the formation of free radicals, thereby slowing down the aging process.
ASK OUR FORMULATOR
Q1. How should I start using Retinol if it's my first time with REL1 Serum? When starting with REL1 Serum, follow these three essential steps to ensure you enjoy the rejuvenating benefits of Retinol:
- Gradual Introduction: Begin with 2-3 drops for your entire face, for 3-4 nights a week. Increase gradually as your skin builds up tolerance for more frequent use.
- Sun Protection: Due to skin cell renewal, your skin may become more sun-sensitive. Always use sunscreen and apply the serum in the evening.
- Be Patient: Your skin will likely to acclimate to the initial adjustment period and reveal a radiant and healthy complexion with the use of Retinol.
Collagen molecules are too large to penetrate deep into the skin when applied topically. For skin firmness and elasticity, we need ingredients that stimulate collagen synthesis effectively to boost collagen production from within.
Q3. What is the adjustment period when using Retinol? The adjustment period for Retinol is known as "Retinization". It is your skin’s natural response to accelerated renewal when using retinoids. Initially, you may experience redness, dryness, or mild itching. Following an initial patch test, pay close attention to how your skin responds and adjust usage accordingly. Your skin will begin to build up tolerance and results will follow.
Q4. Can I use this product if I have eczema or severe acne on my face?If you have eczema, avoid applying the product to eczema-prone areas. Instead, apply it only to unaffected areas or wait until your eczema condition is stabilised. For severe acne, while Retinol is effective in reducing acne formation by accelerating exfoliation within the pores, you may also consider non-oil-based formulations or other active ingredients that targets acne-prone skin, like Niacinamide. Consulting a dermatologist for severe acne is also advisable.
Q5. Why should Retinol be used at night?Using Retinol during the day can make your skin more sun-sensitive due to accelerated skin cell renewal. To prevent this, appropriate sun protection and sunscreen should be used throughout Retinol usage. It's also recommended to use it at night because Retinol loses effectiveness when exposed to sunlight.
Q6. Can pregnant or breastfeeding women use this product?Typically, the primary concern for pregnant and breastfeeding women is oral retinoids. While topical Retinol is administered at doses much lower than the teratogenic levels. However, as safety is of utmost importance, it’s advisable for pregnant and breastfeeding women to avoid Retinol and Retinoids, and instead choose alternative ingredients with similar effects.
Q7. Can Retinol be used every day? Will it cause the skin to become thinner? In fact, Retinol helps to thicken the skin as it is proved to stimulate collage production at various concentrations, promoting the thickening of the dermis. This provides a thicker protective barrier for fragile skin. The frequency of use depends on specific skin needs and varies from person to person.
